Emancipation Proclamation
You are free…
You are free to work wherever you want, however you like, whenever you prefer.
Seth Godin articulated this idea so well in his post entitled “Goodbye to the Office.”
Here’s how he ended that post (emphasis added):
If we were starting this whole office thing today, it’s inconceivable we’d pay the rent/time/commuting cost to get what we get. I think in ten years the TV show ‘the Office’ will be seen as a quaint antique. When you need to have a meeting, have a meeting. When you need to collaborate, collaborate. The rest of the time, do the work, wherever you like. The gain in speed, productivity and happiness is massive. What’s missing is…someplace to go. Once someone figures that part out, the office is dead.
I previously touched on this in a post called “Seven Years of Brick & Mortar.”
And now Starbucks is giving away Wi-Fi for free in all of its’ stores.
Now, more than ever, there is simply no need to waste the massive economic resources that go into supporting “big brick and mortar” in real estate.
Why are you still standing there?
Shoo, hurry up, run along.
Get out there and capitalize on this amazing opportunity to truly untether yourself, to cut the cord and to unlock your cage.
Take off the “because we’ve always done it this way”-colored glasses and be FREE.
Buy an iPad and BE your office wherever you are.
Watch your profit margins JUMP as you finally break down and have that financial liposuction that is so LONG overdue.
EXACTLY as Godin said, “I think in ten years the TV show ‘the Office’ will be seen as a quaint antique.”
The tipping point is upon us…
You are free…
